Hanson Cement, Clitheroe

Back to Case Studies

S Evans & Sons were proud to be awarded demolition works within Hanson Cement’s live cement manufacturing facility at the Ribblesdale Cement works in Clitheroe.

This project of safe demolition of a redundant kiln, scrubber and adjoining duct work that reached a height of over 40 meters required extensive planning, including hot works, mechanical high reach, crane lift plans, and critical working at height safety monitoring.

Our trained, qualified and highly experience operatives carried out hot cutting activities at the top of the steel frame tower from a platform hoisted in the air by 250t crane. Once the level of the tower was brought to a safe height, we utilized the crane for the removal of the ducting out of position from a height of 30 meter, and safely laying down at ground floor level.

We then used our 55 tonne demolition excavator utilizing a high reach arm attachment to assist with the tower demolition. The entire project was carried out safely, efficiently and ahead of schedule. Our experience in this field shone through and we look forward to future projects similar to this one.
