Fosters Street Bridge Strike
On the evening of 5th November S Evans & Sons received a call to carry out emergency works on Fosters Bridge near Ketton due to an unfortunate bridge strike from a waste lorry, the strike caused the bridge to become unsafe and had unrecoverable damage to 50% of the bridge deck.
Within 12 hours of receiving the call the team had assessed the structure and had a strategic plan to make the structure safe for reopening of the rail.
The team worked through the night releasing the damaged girders using hot cutting techniques, mechanical removal and off site to be recycled.
The swift turnaround of the removal enabled AMCO, Network Rail and their engineering parteners to quickly carry out the repairs required to reopen the A6121 road which the bridge was situated over and the line which runs between Leicester and Peterborough causing as little disruption as possible to the public and neighbouring community.
Great team effort from all involved.
