SIX NORTHERN PROJECTS KEEP S EVANS BUSY OVER CHRISTMAS
Christmas may be a time for rest, but for S Evans & Sons, it’s also a critical project delivery window.
This festive period, our teams completed six rail bridge demolitions in northern England and Scotland as part of vital network upgrades.
In Huddersfield, our team supported BAM Nuttall as part of the TRU alliance with the mechanical demolition of the Whitacre Street bridge. Work was carried out during a Christmas blockade to upgrade the TransPennine line. Over in Loughborough, another team removed the Kirk Hill bridge which carries road traffic over the Midland Main Line, on behalf of Amco Giffen. Demolition increased overhead height for electrification.
During a 60-hour Christmas blockade in Darlington, we assisted with the removal and installation of the Dalton Bank bridge, which has taken the railway over Northallerton Road for more than one hundred years. The bridge will be replaced as part of extensive upgrades to the East Coast Mainline.
Traveling further north and across the border, we supported three projects in Fife during a New Year’s blockade. We removed the Falkland Road bridge and Forthar Occupational bridge for Amco Giffen, including the installation of permanent embankment strengthening, and the Balgonie Square bridge for Story Contracting. Demolition of these bridges paves the way for electrification as part of the Fife Decarbonisation Project.
Jordan Sumner, operations director at S Evans & Sons said: “Special thanks to our teams for working tirelessly over the festive period to keep projects on schedule and minimise disruption for rail passengers.”
“Working within out-of-hours possessions is a core part of what we do. Our teams are familiar with the confines of the rail network, working safely under pressure and delivering complex demolition within short timeframes.”
