RAAC Roof Removal
In light of recent news regarding RAAC roofing at schools, S Evans have just completed their 7th and largest RAAC roof removal to date. Works were carried out at Royal Blackburn Hospital on behalf of Carefoot – an extremely sensitive site as the hospital corridors and neighbouring wards remained live throughout. The ward below was soft stripped, and a terraced scaffold platform installed allowing our operatives to safely access and remove up to 1970m² of pitched tiles, batons and RAAC panelling via tower crane. S Evans & Sons provided a bespoke propping design for the pitched roofs ensuring the panels were removed safely controlling the manual handling risks throughout.
We have previously carried out the removal of 6 individual roofs at Aintree Hospital on behalf on BAM Construction, 5 roofs were removed over the plant rooms responsible for powering Aintree Tower; including the lift shaft for the 11 floors, dust/water ingress control was catered for within the planning process and managed on site by our experienced team. Due to the height of the works, mobile cranes were mobilised to site periodically utilised to remove the waste to the ground floor.
