Road bridge demolition

Demolition of the 25ft high single carriageway A522 bridge, which crossed the A50, was safely carried out within a weekend closure by our team.

Due to the bridge’s construction, a temporary works design was developed to mitigate the risk of any premature collapse, prevent damage to the carriageway and ensure the safety of the onsite team. Scaled CAD drawings were produced to allow careful demolition sequencing.

Once the bridge deck was demolished using 45 tonne and 50 tonne demolition specification excavators, the arisings were cleared away to allow the central support and side walls to be demolished. Dust suppression was used throughout and hardwood timber matting was installed for road protection. Once complete, the embankments were graded to leave the site in a safe and clear manner.
