Perry Barr Flyover Demolition
– Weekend of 5th February 2021
During the weekend S Evans & Sons Ltd carried out the demolition of Parry Bar Flyover on behalf of Tarmac and Birmingham City Council. A local bus route ran along side the work site, during the planning we ensured that the lane could be reopened during the day so the demolition would not be a hinderance to the public.
We programmed the work so the spans 1 and 2 were reduced during Friday night, the traffic management was then reconfigured Saturday morning to cater for the public transport whilst the ground protection was repositioned under spans 3, 4 and 5.
The traffic management was then reconfigured once more, and the final 3 spans were demolished during Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday. The piers and abutments were reduced to ground level and all arisings removed to a local compound for crushing and reuse.
The works were completed early hours of Monday morning and the road reopened ahead of schedule.
